The pilot project was launched at Manu Nivas, Panchvati, Ahmedabad in August 2002 with 22 Children, who came from families that did not even have one square meal a day, let alone get an education.
As soon as Visamo Kids started, we had people pouring in to see what Visamo was all about and in August itself, the very first month of the venture, we had our children trying to settle down some crying, some enjoying. We had four drop-outs, and 18 children remained with us who are still an integral part at Visamo Kids Foundation.
Without the community’s involvement Visamo Kids would not have come so far. There were many who helped us with their time and there were many who sponsored the education. Also, our biggest help came from the partner schools without whom, the main aim of providing “empowerment through education” would not have taken place.
Three years of happy as well as challenging moments later, our family of children was growing with the help of partner NGOs and our volunteers as well as staff, and we were moving ahead with a unified purpose. Now that the family was large, we needed more space that could help us organize and structure the progress of our children. The K.R. Shroff Foundation understood our need and donated a new building with all facilities that could support 100 children.
We shifted to our new home on January 30, 2005. Today we are strong family of 41 children and the numbers grow every year. |
